CONTESTSMOON IS ME - LUNAR MINING DESIGN CHALLENGE A global competition to design lunar mining tools that the MERLIN rovers can utilize to acquire and transport lunar samples containing valuable metals and minerals. The challenge is global and open to students as well as professional designers utilizing Autodesk products. The top designs will be prototyped and demonstrated in a field test competition at Moon Express facilities at the NASA Research Park in Silicon Valley. The winning prize design will be funded by the company for potential test and demonstration on the Moon.
MOON IS ME ART AWARD With a Jury of prestigeous individuals, such as Astonaut/Painter Alan Bean (whose work is shown here), Moon Express will conduct a worldwide, online art contest. Categories will include painting, sculpture, print-making, drawing, and photography. Call for entries will be in fall 2012, and a showing of the combined work will be held at the NASA Ames Research Facility in California and made available as a commemorative book.
The plan is to have Michael Stipe, lead vocalist for the band R.E.M. and composer of the song Man On The Moon, be the guest judge and headlining act at the firstever Moon Is Me Music Festival & Awards Show. To be at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, the three day festival will be scheduled for Summer 2013, right about the same time Moon Express plans to be landing our little flivver on the Moon. Call it a coincidence, but we think there'll be plenty to celebrate during those three glorious days. |
